Michael Hollyman, Personal Trainer from Basingstoke

My name is Michael Hollyman, owner of mhactive. I am an Active IQ qualified and REPS registered Personal Trainer; circuit class and Les Mills GRIT instructor, who holds a diploma in GP referral. In addition I am an Active IQ course tutor and assessor for Level II Fitness Instructors and Level III Personal Trainers at Basingstoke Sports Centre.

With a passion for sports, health, fitness and the human body I have spent over 30 years actively learning and participating in a wide range of sports: football; tennis; off road biking; running (1/2 marathons). Alongside keeping fit and healthy by training in numerous gyms I currently love and take on the challenges of Obstacle course racing. Having completed the ‘Spartan Trifecta’; Dirty Dozen ‘medal of honour’; Nuclear race ‘mudallion’. As well as completing The Nuts Challenge and  Tough Guy.

Being based at Basingstoke Sports Centre as a Personal Trainer has given me invaluable practical experience coupled with theoretical knowledge I gained through my Active IQ studies. I have been responsible for aerobic and circuit class training at the College of Policing, based at Bramshill, Hampshire and Kettlebell classes at Sony HQ.

Utilising functional equipment (certified in Kettlebells; Bulgarian Bag; and TRX); free weight; resistance; and cardiovascular equipment in a variety of training methods, and providing nutritional advice I have trained a range of people of varied shapes, sizes, fitness and health levels, and sporting activity, from complete beginners to sport specific athletes to help achieve goals and help individuals be able to do what they want to do, when they want to do it through functional movement exercises helping them perform better in any situation, circumstance, and sporting or fitness activity.   • Without Michael I would have fallen off the wagon and stayed off. As a bride to be, I knew I wanted to change things and tone up and Michael has certainly taken this on board. One of the best things about his programmes is that they change regularly. I, and my body, get bored easily. Each new programme has new challenges and the first session is never easy but it’s immensely satisfying when you get through it and then to find your body getting better and better at it is really reassuring.

His approach of examining what you are looking for and then designing a challenging yet manageable program is excellent! In a short amount of time, I have increased my fitness and agility, while not losing interest in the program (which is always a problem with gym programs).
