Molly’s OCR Training for Nuclear Races
Having run 5 half marathons and continuously trying to get into the London marathon I decided to change my direction of training and focus on a new challenge of OCRs
For me running the distance wasn’t the problem but I knew in order to successfully complete the races I would need to build my strength. I saw that Michael competed in these types of events and so contacted him for his help. I explained what it was that I wanted to achieve I knew my legs were strong due to running but I needed to improve my upper body and core strength to be able to pull myself up on certain obstacles.
I booked in for Nuclear Races where throughout the year I would complete 3 different courses to get a Trifecta medal, ‘The Medallion’. Michael explained the best forms of training for me would be to complete 1-2 times a week.
Interval/conditioning training allowed me to perform circuits in short bursts which is how the body would perform on the day – jumping, running, crawling and climbing. Other training days included weights sessions and one run a week. In only a matter of weeks, I noticed a difference in how I performed and what I could achieve! In one of the events (the longest one) I came 18th in the women’s category for my age, this is something that would not have been achieved had it not been for Michael and his training.
